If you want to beat the heat this summer in Chicago the beach might not be your best bet. A report released Wednesday by the National Resources Defense Council stated that two beaches violated public health standards.
Between 2007 and 2011 more than 25 percent of poor health standards were reported giving the posthumous beaches a ranking of 15 of the most polluted beaches in the U.S.
Winnetka’ Elder Park Beach according to the report is the second worst in the nation for having high bacteria counts.
North Point Marina Beach in Lake County is tenth worst and samples of the water must be tested at least four times a day.
In all Illinois ranks in the bottom three for percentage of water that exceeds national standards.
